Senior Food Scientist

Philadelphia Metro Area

Growing established nutritional company seeks individual with a degree in food science, nutrition or related field and a minimum of three years hands on experience to develop nutritional products and conduct research to support development of new products and program concepts. This opportunity would enable you to see your work progress from concept to production.

Summary

Applies scientific principles in research, development, production, technology, quality control, packaging and processing of nutritionally designed foods and dietary supplements. Conducts basic nutrition research for the development of programs to support product utilization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs all duties of a Food Scientist II plus:
  • Completes advanced product development projects including scientific research.
  • Performs formula scale up document review and is authorized to approve BOM entries.
  • Cross trains and is competent in three or more other areas such as technical database management, technical services/research, technical support/reporting.
  • Manages multi-phase projects with aggressive time constraints that are significant to business growth.
  • Makes decisions and displays independent judgment.
  • Sets an example through a leadership role by providing training, mentoring and working collaboratively across various departments within the company.
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making skills with a high degree of ownership and professionalism.
  • Manages responsibilities such as ongoing nutrition database management role or serving as a point person organizing the group data and information for new multi-product line.
  • Follows all food laws and regulations for Good Manufacturing Practices to maintain proper food safety standards which apply to manufacturing, distribution and sale of all its products.

Education and/or Experience: Master’s degree (M.S.) in Food Science, Nutrition or related science field and ten years of food industry/product development or relevant science equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Genesis software, TGI
